Over spring break, my family and I took a road trip from Chicago to Savannah, GA. I love long road trips so much! We packed the car; husband, daughter, dog, bags and lots of podcasts! Road trip and Savannah were all lovely. It was warm, sunny, relaxing and nice to finally feel back to normal enjoying a vacation.
On the way home we listened to Molly Shannon on Fresh Air, which I have to say, Terry Gross is the tops when it comes to interviewing people. Molly’s story was heartbreaking and inspiring, it will make you laugh and tear up. I had no clue about her history and how she made it to SNL. One amazing take away from the interview was when Molly said; “ You don’t have to be the best, just enjoy being creative. Enjoy the work you are passionate about. Enjoy where you are.” I really took this to heart. I don’t have to be the best at illustration, I just have to love what I do, enjoy my work and be grateful where I am.
I highly recommend listening to the interview and reading her new book, Hello, Molly!: A Memoir*. And if you haven’t watched The Other Two on HBO Max yet, hop to it!
I struggled a lot with my work these past few weeks after recovering from covid. I’m not sure if it was being sick or the constant bad news, but I remembered this quote and got to work making this illustration. Now, I feel pretty good.
Thank you for being here and for reading ‘Playtime’. It means the world to me.

A wonderful thing to remember especially when imposter and comparison thinking creeps in. Where can I find the interview you listened to? I would love to hear it
Such a good quote!
